The air conditioner had broken down after three and a half years. And I was told that it would be a paid repair, but I can't accept it.

I’ve bought a new car three and a half years ago. The air conditioner stopped blowing air, and when I asked the dealer to repair it, I was told that the blower motor (the motor that sends the air) was defective and the 3-year warranty period had passed, so it would be a paid repair.
The mileage is within the scope of warranty, and I am not convinced that it is charged just after the warranty period is a little over.

Answer and Suggested Solutions

If the warranty period has expired, repair is charged in principle. It seems that it will be a negotiation with the dealer to reduce the repair cost.

Solution point

  • A manufacturer's new car warranty is a contract in which the manufacturer promises the purchaser of the car to repair the car free of charge under certain conditions (duration, distance, maintenance, etc.). If the specific conditions are exceeded, in principle, the repair will be charged. For domestic passenger cars, the warranty period for the air conditioner motor is 3 years or 60,000 km, whichever comes first (excluding some models. Please check the warranty card).
  • However, if the cause of the defect is not result from use, aging, misuse by the consumer, poor maintenance, etc., and the cause of the defect already existed when the vehicle was handed over, the warranty period and mileage will not be honored. In that case, even if the limit is exceeded, the manufacturer or retailer may be responsible for a part or all the repair costs.
  • It is important to clarify the cause of the failure and where the responsibility lies. In addition to confirming the contents of the warranty, it seems that you should ask the dealer to investigate the cause of the failure and explain their opinion. Since the warranty period has expired, you will have to negotiate with the dealer about the share of repair costs.
  • If the parties to the dispute (consumers and retailers) do not reach an agreement on the repair costs, etc., and if both parties (consumers and retailers) agree, it is possible for them to use a lawyer attached to our consultation center which will take an out-of-court dispute resolution procedure called "Settlement Mediation".
